flora in Fljótstunga

Just above Fljótstunga farmstead there are hills of rocks and wetlands and in between what looks like a barren landscape there lies a small valley that is filled with blueberries, amongst other berries, herbs and plants. When one knows what to look for it becomes obvious how rich the land is in Iceland of berries, herbs and plants that not only make the land stunningly beautiful in spring and autumn whilst changing colors but are also traditionally important features in the survival and nourishment of the Icelandic people.

Here in Fljótstunga we make herbal infusions out of the Wild Thyme, jam, pies and more delicacies out of blueberries, crowberries and black currant and spice up our food with more herbs found on the land.
