This is a small cottage with a comfortable and big double bed. It has a small kitchen corner with fridge, small stove and basic kitchenware. It has a private WC beside it so you have to go out of the cabin to get to the WC. The cottage has access to a
shared shower in the common space.
the story
This is a historical little cottage. It is one
of the first cabins in Iceland that were
built exclusively for tourism. Before
that, travelers had been staying with
hosts inside their houses. The triangular
shape is common to see with old cabins
of the time and for smaller cottages
located here and there around the
highlands.
the name
Hákot means 'high little home'. It is the highest cottage at the farm, meaning the highest cottage up the hill, and definitively a little home. The 'há' part comes from 'hár' or 'hátt' which means high and 'kot' means a little home.
